The predominant leathers I use are "English" bridle leather, harness leather and some bark tanned latigo leather. The bridle leather handles the elements extremely well but is prized more for its beautiful top grain. This harness leather is considered the best in the industry. It is prized for its strength and durability under extreme conditions in the field. Bark tanned latigo has less stretch and better tensile strength. It feels more flexible without being broken in.

All stitching is done by hand, needle and awl. Hand stitching is considered one of the most durable and long lasting ways of sewing leather. To date, this has not been duplicated by any machine.

The hardware which is used in all of my products is solid brass, chrome over brass, stainless steel and bronze, with the exception of the all metal side release buckles or special request.

Hand Stitched Rolled Buckle Collar

One good example of how custom work is better than a production item is a rolled collar. When making it by hand, the rolled part would be the desired size and the buckle would be in proportion to the roll, while the strap would be heavier and more durable. On the production product, the roll may be the desired size, however, the buckle is large and the strap itself is too wide and thin.

Sizing

When ordering a buckle collar, I prefer that you measure the neck where the collar will be worn.  An exact measurement is best, not too tight and not too loose.  I use the exact neck size and then make the proper adjustments for the correct fit.  For example, an exact measurement of 18" will give you an adjustment range from 17" to 19".

When ordering a choke collar, the neck size is not as important as the largest point the collar needs to pass to get over the head.  Usually people prefer it to go over snugly on short coated breeds. However, if you like the collar to lie on the shoulders, take that into consideration when measuring. A dog with a large ruff may be better suited to a larger collar.
